Charles Parmley

Charles Parmley

Director

As Director of Aviation Risk Services, with over 30 years of experience in all facets of aviation. But he wasn’t always on the service end of the insurance business.

Charles knows planes. He has over 30 years of experience in all facets of aviation. But he wasn’t always on the service end of the insurance business. For years, he was a consumer of aviation insurance products. So he knows both sides of the business and is keenly aware of how critical it is to partner with an insurance expert who understands the unique needs of the aviation industry.

As Director of SilverStone Group’s Aviation Risk Services Division, Charles leads a team that is dedicated to offering quality products and outstanding service to aviation customers, no matter the size of the operation. And the service doesn’t end when coverage is placed. Charles and the Aviation team are always available, for day-to-day service issues and in times of crisis. Their commitment to service is one reason why so many aircraft owners and pilots trust their insurance needs to SilverStone Group.

Charles began his aviation career at a small aircraft engine development company in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he was a draftsman generating the engineering drawings for FAA submission. He then moved to Duncan Aviation, also in Lincoln; he started as an aircraft mechanic in the jet service center and was promoted to lead mechanic after receiving his FAA airframe and Powerplant mechanics ratings. He handled all aspects of project and crew management for inspection, maintenance and heavy structural repair of business jets.

He founded Parmley Aviation in 1985 and was involved with the fabrication, assembly, certification and flight-testing of high-performance, single-engine aircraft. He also maintained a fleet of single- and twin-engine aircraft, as well as Bell 204, 206 and model 47 helicopters.

Over the next 11 years, the business relocated to the Council Bluffs Municipal Airport and evolved into a full-service Fixed Based Operator (FBO). The FBO provided maintenance service and flight training and was a designated Part 135 air taxi and Part 145 certified repair station. He also supported fire fighting activities in Alaska with a specially modified Shorts SD3-30 aircraft incorporating Supplemental Type Certificates that he designed and developed.

In 1996, he founded Exclusive Aviation Services, Inc., an aviation consulting company specializing in aircraft certifications, field approvals for major mod and repairs, project evaluations and safety management system program evaluation and implementation for flight departments. He maintains his FAA Designated Airworthiness Representative certification along with inspection authorization.

Charles’ most recent position was as Werner Enterprises’ senior international captain operating Falcon 900 and 50s domestically and globally. His awards include Local and Regional FAA 2004 “Good Friend Awards” for the promotion of safety with turbine-powered experimental aircraft, and the 2005 FAA Certificate of Excellence “Gold Award” for aviation technical training. He also loves family activities such as horseback and dirt bike riding, boating, hunting, camping and anything else they can do together.

James Gulson

Managing Director

James has always been fascinated with flight. His father gave him his first flight lesson as a gift while he was in college and he was hooked!

James has always been fascinated with flight. His father gave him his first flight lesson as a gift while he was in college and he was hooked! With a private pilot license and 18 years of experience in risk management, he’s placed coverage on everything from a single engine piston aircraft to large business jets and rotorcraft, James is now Managing Director of our Aviation Risk Services.

Working with people in the aviation industry quickly leads to an understanding of a common passion. From pilots to aircraft owners and manufacturers to service providers, this passion is evident and James enjoys working with these professionals every day. He takes the time to really listen to his clients and understand their businesses so that he may be part of their team rather than merely react to challenges that may arise.

His first foray into aviation insurance was handling a vertical placement for a large products liability case involving hot air balloons. He immediately endeavored to meet the leadership of the major domestic aviation markets to build the relationships necessary to serve his clients. James also handled a large medical fleet to include 6 fixed wing and 4 rotorcraft air ambulance units, as well as FBO’s and a multitude of aircraft used for charter, industrial aid, pleasure and business. He understands the regulations and is acutely aware of the challenges facing the aviation industry. His experience with complicated risks has allowed him to establish strong relationships within the insurance markets and serve as a credible advocate for his clients.

James is also proud of the strong bond he has with his son. They are often out hunting, which James describes as special experiences. He enjoys watching his son behind their gun dog, learning how to work with him in the field. He couldn’t be more amazed. When they return from the hunt, their two big dogs rule the house.
