Susan Bailey Named Investment Administrator

SilverStone Group Achieves a Gold Well Workplace Award

Omaha, NE  |  For the fifth time since 2000, SilverStone Group has been awarded with the Gold Well Workplace Award by the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA).

In order to qualify for the designation, an organization must show its commitment to protecting and enhancing the health and well-being of their employees. Earning the Well Workplace award is a rigorous process, including an examination of seven benchmark areas, all of which demonstrate a company’s dedication to maximizing wellness.

Mikaela Walker Joins Property & Casualty Team

Jeff Sharp Receives “2011 Nebraska NABCAP Premier…

SilverStone Group Receives Governor’s Excellence in…

Omaha, NE, October 19, 2011 – For the second consecutive year, SilverStone Group has been honored with the State of Nebraska’s Large Company Grower Award, a distinction given to organizations with more than 50 employees that ‘grow the seed of wellness’ for employees. The award was presented to SilverStone Group’s Wellness Activities Group (WAG) co-chair’s Merle Riepe and Michelle Hansen at the Workwell banquet in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 18.

In order to qualify for the merit, a company must have a team or individual designated to administer wellness programs, senior management must support the wellness initiatives, employee health data and feedback must be collected, the company must participate in philanthropic events and provide benefits that support wellness.

“SilverStone Group is proud to be recognized by Governor Heineman and his staff,” stated Riepe. “Wellness is an important platform in Nebraska, and we are committed to making our employees lives richer through our wellness programs.”

The WAG committee leads SilverStone Group’s wellness initiatives by promoting well-being through events such as The F.A.S.T. Program for weight loss, Lunch and Learns, promoting and supporting fitness activities and more. SilverStone Group also supplies healthy snacks for employees, follows a healthy food policy for catered lunches and reimburses a portion of gym membership fees for all Associates.

Jackie Schulte Named Imaging System Administrator

Tammy Rogers Promoted to Accounting Supervisor

Governor Dave Heineman’s Workplace Wellness Award honors employers who promote a healthy work environment by offering programs that encourage employees to lead a healthy lifestyle. The 28 employers honored this year have actively worked towards employee weight loss and increased physical activity.

SilverStone Group Associates Swing for Charities

Omaha, NE  |  Over the past few months, SilverStone Group Associates have been swinging, lifting, snatching and squatting kettlebells for a good cause. Their swinging raised $690 for Child Saving Institute in June, and $250 was raised for Cystic Fibrosis in August.

SilverStone Group’s Wellness Activities Group (WAG) partnered with SG Human Performance for a Corporate Challenge event in both the spring and summer of 2011. The challenges combined kettlebell workouts with other high intensity lifting and cardio exercises, as well as a strict nutrition plan. Associates and their spouses were divided into teams and competed against other SilverStone Group teams for bragging rights. Points were accumulated based on their workout frequency, nutrition compliancy and measurements, which were taken throughout the challenge. The participants paid a fee to work out with SG Human Performance trainers Mark and Nikki Snow, and 50% of those fees were donated to the winning team’s charity of choice.

At the beginning, Associates set measurable goals, such as weight loss or swinging a heavier kettlebell, and in the end were monetarily rewarded if they met their goal. The winning team, along with the highest point earner from each team, was treated to a celebratory lunch. Not only did the charities benefit from this friendly competition, but 71 SilverStone Group Associates and their spouses / significant others lost a total of 205 lbs. of body fat during the spring competition, and 27 Associates  and their spouses / significant others lost a total of 50 lbs. of body fat during the summer competition.

“Our participants really enjoyed this unique program,” said Michelle Hansen, WAG Co-Chairman. “Associates of all fitness levels could participate, and almost everyone could see and feel a positive difference in their body after the six-week competition was finished. It also was a great opportunity for Associates to socialize with each other on a different platform.”

Through programs like the Corporate Challenge, WAG strives to provide a healthy work environment that promotes the overall well-being of Associates and their families. SilverStone Group and the WAG committee are dedicated to providing a workplace where mind and body wellness is a priority.

SilverStone Group Donates Money to Flood Victims

Omaha, NE  |  The Heartland Flood of 2011 has devastated the Midwest, destroying a large number of homes and farmland. SilverStone Group would like to extend condolences to the flood victims and offer assistance to those impacted by this disaster.

Associates at SilverStone Group recently pooled their resources during a company-wide fundraiser, collecting over $4,000 to donate towards relief efforts for those afflicted by the flooding. In addition, the Nelson Family Foundation matched the amount raised by the Associates. The donation went to the Pottawattamie County Community Foundation Disaster Relief Fund.

“Everyone chipped in to give something to help out our neighbors. I like to think our Associates try to throw a starfish back into the ocean every day,” commented John H. Nelson, SilverStone Group’s President.

SilverStone Group Associates were thanked for their efforts with a “Black Top Beach Bash Barbeque” party in the company parking lot, which included food, beverages and a half day off from work.

Businesses Adding Farmer’s Market to Employee Perks

Omaha, NE  |  Two Omaha business parks are offering employees access to their own weekly farmer’s market.

At 132nd and West Dodge Road, C&A Industries, First National Bank, Home Instead Senior Care and Lutz & Co. employees can now access a small farmer’s market with produce from local grower Wenninghoff’s every Wednesday through Aug. 31.

Another farmer’s market in Miracle Hills at 120th and Dodge streets will provide fresh, local produce to Tenaska, SilverStone Group, AON and Visiting Nurse Association employees beginning Aug. 4 in the Tenaska parking lot, according to Linda Kenedy, community trainer for Partners for a Healthy City and the Wellness Council for the Midlands.

The programs are set up through Partners for a Healthy City, which provides a grant that allows employees of participating businesses to pay $5 for coupons that can be redeemed for $6 worth of produce, Kenedy said. While the businesses themselves organize the market, Partners for a Healthy City provides procedures and guidance for choosing a producer.

First National employees have had a very positive response to the new program since it began earlier this summer, said Kelly Parr, Wellness and Worklife Coordinator for First National Bank.

“It makes it easy and convenient for participants to get healthy produce to take home,” Parr said.

SilverStone Group Recognized for Red Cross Blood…
April 20, 2011

Omaha, NE  |   SilverStone Group Associates answered the call during the American Red Cross 2011 Recovery Program with a record number of Associates donating blood during the winter campaign; 27 Associates participated in the January collection that drew 22 pints of blood.

“We usually host two blood drives each year, but when the Red Cross told us they were in dire need for blood, we held an extra blood drive to  do our part to help,” stated Pat Spieler, Defined Benefits Plan Administrator and Wellness Activities Group (WAG) blood drive chairperson.

Due to the severe winter weather during 2010 and 2011, more than 14,000 blood and platelet donation drives were cancelled, bringing the blood supply to dangerously low levels. SilverStone Group’s efforts in recruiting additional donors to help build the blood supply were recognized in the March 17th edition of USA Today.

The WAG Committee, comprised of volunteer Associates from many departments, spearheads SilverStone Group’s wellness initiatives. The team strives to provide a healthy work environment by promoting well-being, quality performance and community involvement. Workplace Wellness through City-Wide Initiative…

The goal of this initiative is to help make Omaha a healthier city to live, work, play and raise children. In addition, SilverStone Group reimburses a portion of gym membership fees for all Associates.
