Student Athlete of the Week

Each week during Basketball season, SilverStone Group joins with ESPN Radio Show to honor one current High School basketball player as the “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week” for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship.

Each week during the Basketball season, SilverStone Group will honor ONE current High School basketball player as the “Wisdom at Work Student / Athlete of the Week” for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship. This week’s honoree is …… Senior Mercedes Bender from Omaha Central High School.

Mercedes comes off the bench to provide Central with spark and inspiration. According to State Championship coach Tom Lee, “Mercedes is a leader on and off the floor. She comes off the bench and makes things happen for us. Without her contributions this year, we would have never been state champion.”

Bender averaged 6.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game and was third on the team in assists, all coming off the bench.

Mercedes Bender will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing her as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Student / Athlete of the Week.”

Kevin Harkins

Each week during the Basketball season, SilverStone Group will honor ONE current High School basketball player as the “Wisdom at Work Student/ Athlete of the Week” for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship. This week’s honoree is …… Sophomore Kevin Harkins from Omaha South High School.

The 6-6 sophomore averages 7 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. He has helped lead his Packers to a return trip to the state tournament next week, facing off against Norfolk.

On top of being #1 in his class out of 520 students, the upside to Harkins may be his basketball career. According to Omaha South Head Coach Bruce Chubick, “He wears a size 19 shoe now and is expected to grow 4-5 more inches, he’s going to be a beast. But what separates him the most is that he’s such a tough competitor. We just love the kid”

Harkins comes from good academic stock as his mother Anita is the Principal at Benson High School.

Kevin Harkins will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing him as this week’s “Wisdom at Work- Student /Athlete of the Week.”

Brianna Rollerson

February 22, 2012

Each week during the Basketball season, SilverStone Group will honor one current High School basketball player as the “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week” for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship. This week’s honoree is Omaha Central’s Brianna Rollerson.

According to Central Coach Tom Lee, “Brianna is a hard-working kid on and off the court, she works out everyday all year round.” That might have something to do with why Creighton thought so much of her ability they offered her a scholarship. She will join coach Tim Flannery and the Blue Jay squad next year.

Rollerson leads her team with 15 points a game, 10 rebounds and has amassed over 40 blocked shots this season.

“She is a key to us winning a state championship this year and I really hope it happens for all my girls,” said Coach Lee.

Brianna Rollerson will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing her as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week.”

Ashley Frolio

Each week during the basketball season, SilverStone Group will honor ONE current High School basketball player as the “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week” for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship. This week’s honoree is Omaha North’s Ashley Frolio.

Ashley is a senior captain, and a 3 year varsity letter winner. According to Coach Andy Havelka, “Ashley is a hard-working kid on and off the court, and is always willing to help out her teammates and leads by example.”

She is a member of the National Honor Society, has a 3.5 GPA and is a member of the Nebraska College Prep Academy, in conjunction with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  After completion of the program she will qualify to attend UNL free of charge.

Ashley works two jobs and is also a volunteer firefighter for the Irvington Fire and Rescue squad. 

Ashley Frolio will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing her as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week.”

Chelsey Mason

February 8, 2012

Each week during the Basketball season, SilverStone Group will honor one current High School basketball player as the “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week” for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship. This week’s honoree is Senior Chelsea Mason from Bellevue West High School.

She arrived her junior year from Alabama and helped lead her team to the state championship finals. This year’s captain and a two year starter, she maintains a 4.1 GPA and averages 22.6 points per game, including a 40 point outburst vs. Omaha South.

According to Bellevue West Coach Matt Fritsche, “Chelsea is one of the most talented and prolific scorers I have ever coached.” Mason will continue her career at Division One Kennesaw State in Georgia next season.

Chelsea Mason will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing her as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week.”

Emily Gamble

Each week during the Basketball season, SilverStone Group will honor one current High School basketball player as the “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week” for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship. This week’s honoree is Senior Emily Gamble from Omaha Central High School.

The four year starter and two year captain has made tremendous strides in her game over the last four years. According to her coach Tom Lee, “Emily has shown great leadership on and off the court. She is well respected by her peers and the staff at Central.”

Gamble is averaging 8.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game on top of being 2nd on the team in assists and 3rd in steals.

Emily Gamble will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing her as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week.”

Cass Thielen

January 25, 2012

Each week during the Basketball season, SilverStone Group will honor one current High School basketball player as the “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week” for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship. This week’s honoree is Senior Cass Thielen from Elkhorn South High School.

Cass is a two year starter for the Storm Girls Basketball Team, averaging 7 points and 6 rebounds per game.

According to Elkhorn South Head Coach Terry Graver, “She works hard at everything she does and is an outstanding leader. She is an outstanding 3-point shooter who always leads by example and puts the team first. Needless to say, Cass has a very bright future.”

What’s even more impressive is that she’s a straight A student, earned a 32 on her ACT and is a National Honor Society member.

Cass Thielen will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing her as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week.”

Dan Fieckert

January 18, 2012

Each week during the Basketball season, SilverStone Group will honor one current High School basketball player as the “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week” for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship. This week’s honoree is Senior Dan Fieckert from Elkhorn High School.

The three year captain and two year starter maintains a 4.1 GPA and is second in his graduating class. He averages 7.6 points a game and always guards the team’s best opponent.

According to Elkhorn Coach Spencer Peterson, “Dan is a young man of very high character and a fantastic student athlete. He will play any role the team needs him to play. He is committed to his team and his teammates; he’s the best leader I’ve been around.”

Dan Fieckert will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing him as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week.”

Ethan Montalvo

Each week during the Basketball season, SilverStone Group will honor one current High School basketball player as the “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week” for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship. This week’s honoree is Senior Ethan Montalvo from Bryan High School.

“He’s just a great kid. He cares about his teammates and is genuinely courteous to everyone.” That’s Coach Tim Cannon’s description of his senior guard, Ethan Montalvo.

Montalvo is averaging 15.2 points and 3 assists per game. But his point totals are not what make him special. According to Cannon, “He’s a great team leader; he will do anything on the floor to make his team better.”

Ethan Montalvo will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing him as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week.”

Joe Imig

January 4, 2012

Each week during the Basketball season, SilverStone Group will honor one current High School basketball player as the “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week” for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship. This week’s honoree is Senior Joe Imig for Omaha Bryan High School.

Imig is an outstanding student athlete carrying a 3.92 GPA on a 4.0 scale. He routinely volunteers at Bryan Youth Basketball Clinics and is an active parish member at St. Peter and Paul.

According to the Metro Dean of Coaches, Bryan’s Tim Cannon, “Joe is an example of the ultimate team player. He averages 10.6 pts and dishes out almost 5 assists per game; he makes everyone around him better.”

He is third in a long line of talented point guards, with his brothers Ben and Matt coming before him, and his sister Katy currently a freshman on the Bellevue West varsity team.

Joe Imig will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing him as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Student Athlete of the Week.”
