SilverStone Group will honor one current Husker athlete each week as the “Wisdom at Work” Husker athlete for achievements in classroom excellence, community involvement, athletics and citizenship. This week’s honoree is Senior linebacker Mathew May from Imperial, Nebraska. May is on the all Big 12 Commissioner’s honor roll the last 3 years, part of the Brook Berringer Citizenship team and volunteers with visits to local hospitals and elementary schools.
May will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing her as this week’s SilverStone Group “Wisdom at Work” Husker Athlete of the week.
Jordan Jackson

This week’s honoree is soccer forward Jordan Jackson a Junior from Overland Park, Kansas. Jackson is a nutrition, exercise and health science major and earned First team Academic All Big12 in 2010 and ESPN academic All District 12 honors.
Jordan will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing her as this week’s SilverStone Group Wisdom at Work Husker Athlete of the week.
Andreas Hofer

This week’s honoree is Senior All Around Gymnast, Andreas Hofer. Hailing from Helmholtz, Germany, Hofer is majoring in international management and earned scholastic all American honors in 2010 and captured first team academic All Big 12 honors in 2011. Hofer is also a 3 time All Big 12 honor roll member.
Hofer will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing him as this week’s SilverStone Group Wisdom at Work Husker Athlete of the week.
Marcel Jones

This week’s honoree is Senior Offensive Lineman Marcel Jones. From Phoenix, Arizona, Jones is a construction management major scheduled to graduate this December. Twice an all Big 12 first team all academic member, Jones was also named on the Brook Berringer Citizenship team the last 3 years.
Jones will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing him as this week’s SilverStone Group Wisdom at Work Husker Athlete of the week.

2011 Outlook
Marcel Jones has significant experience on the field but was slowed by a back injury during 2010. In the final weeks of the season, Jones joined Nebraska’s regular offensive line rotation and is hoping for growth in 2011 that will put him back in a significant role on the team. In 2009, Jones contributed to a 1,000-yard rushing season and in 2008 he helped rank the Huskers among the top 20 nationally in total and scoring offense. Jones is a six-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll selection.
Nikki Haget

This week’s honoree is Senior Softball standout Nikki Haget. Hailing from Elkhorn, Nebraska, Nikki is an Academic All District 7 first team for 2011 and 6 time Big 12 Commissioner’s honor roll selection. Haget started all but one game in center field for Nebraska in 2011 with a .341 batting average. Her slugging percentage is an impressive .385 and she finished last season with 12 RBIs. Haget led Nebraska with 62 hits and 51 runs in 2011. Nikki is a forensic science major, and will no doubt be a strong leader for the 2012 team.

Lora Evenstad

This week’s honoree is Senior All–Around Gymnast, Lora Evenstad. From Grand Forks, North Dakota, Lora was first team All American in 2010 and 2011, Big 12 Vault and Floor champion in 2010 and is a two time first team academic All Big 12 for 2010 and 2011.
Evanstad will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing her as this week’s SilverStone Group Wisdom at Work Husker Athlete of the week.
Sean Fisher

This week’s honoree is Junior Linebacker, Sean Fisher. The 6′ 6″ Linebacker from Millard North has been on both the Spring and Fall Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. Fisher volunteers his time at the F Street Recreation Center, the Village Manor Retirement Center and with team hospital visits.
Fisher will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing him as this week’s SilverStone Group Wisdom at Work Husker Athlete of the week.

Brandon Ubel

This week’s honoree is Brandon Ubel , a 6’ 11 Junior forward from Overland Park, Kansas. Brandon is a broadcasting major and was a member of the National Honor Society at Blue Valley West high school. Ubel appeared in all 32 Husker games last year and was one of the most improved players on the squad. He closed last season playing some of the best basketball of his career, averaging 10 points on 58 percent shooting and 6.3 rebounds over the Husker’s final four games.

Kale Kiser

This week’s honoree is Senior infielder Kale Kiser. The 5’10, right hander hails from Plano, Texas and was Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll for both Fall and Spring semesters. Kale carries a 3.12 GPA and is majoring in finance. He was also Big 12 Baseball Honorable mention and a 3-year letterman.

Kaitlyn Burke
September 17, 2011
This week’s honoree is women’s basketball standout Kaitlyn Burke, a 5′ 7″ senior guard from North Vancouver, British Colombia . Kaitlyn is a 2-time first team Academic All Big 12 honoree, a 7-time Big 12 commissioners honor roll member and is currently number 8 on the Nebraska Career 3-point list. Burke will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing her as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Husker Athlete of the week.”
2011 Outlook
As a starter for the Huskers, Kaitlyn is averaging 6.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game, playing in all 24 contests. An experienced starter and contributor in the NU backcourt, Burke can add stability and consistency at both ends of the court.
“Kaitlyn brings maturity and intensity to our team every day in practice,” Nebraska Coach Connie Yori said. “She is a very good passer and shooter and has a good feel for the game.”
Jordan Wilberger

This week’s honoree is volleyball standout Jordan Wilberger, a 6′ 1″ middle blocker from Scottsbluff. Jordan was awarded first team Academic All Big 12 in 2009 and 2010 and also made the 2010 Seattle Regional All tournament team. Wilberger will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing her as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Husker Athlete of the week.”
2011 Outlook
Throughout her Husker career, Jordan Wilberger has taken advantage of the opportunitires that have come her way. She earned an invitation to walk-on and has become one of Nebraska’s top contributors as a middle blocker. Jordan started 15 matches in 2010, including 10 of the team’s final 13 matches. She posted career highs in kills, blocks and hitting percentage in 2010.
“Jordan had a great spring for us,” Coach John Cook said. “She has played in the Final Four and has a lot of experience under her belt. Jordan knows what it takes to be great and that is something you can’t teach.”
Mike Caputo
September 3, 2011
This week’s honoree is Mike Caputo, a 6 -1, 275-pound Senior center from Millard North. Mike originally walked on and earned a scholarship in 2009. His community outreach includes Special Olympics, American Education week and hospital visits. He was also named to the 2011 Brook Berringer Citizenship team. Mike will receive a plaque from SilverStone Group recognizing him as this week’s “Wisdom at Work Husker Athlete of the Week.”
2011 Outlook
Center Mike Caputo emerged as the centerpiece of Nebraska’s line during the 2010 season, and is expected to be the leader of a young, but talented 2011 offensive line. Caputo’s leadership role will be counted on even more as the Huskers operate under a new offensive system. Caputo is one of the top returning centers in the country and could be a contender for postseason accolades.
