The actuarial staff at SilverStone Group includes two Fellows and four Associates of the Society of Actuaries and a support staff of 15 actuarial analysts and administrators. Our actuaries have all of the qualifications and experience needed to address the financial reporting requirements of GASB. We are qualified to issue a Public Statement of Actuarial Opinion and have over 16 years of experience assessing and reporting upon OPEB plans and liabilities. We have completed GASB 45 valuations throughout the United States.

Everyone hopes to retire with a comfortable income and good health. While SilverStone Group can’t guarantee the latter, Donn and the Defined Benefit Team work hard to guide employers to design and administer retirement programs for their employees that provide the potential for financial security in retirement. This process starts with an evaluation of the retirement plans that are being maintained or considered for adoption. The actuaries on the team outline plans that address the funding obligations for the retirement plans that are within the financial means of the employer. The administrators provide support throughout the year, responding to participant requests and government filings. And the consultants on the team continue to monitor the retirement plan operations to assure they continue to satisfy the employer’s objectives.
Donn has over 30 years of experience as an actuarial consultant for defined benefit plans. He specializes in the communication of complex topics at the Executive and Board levels of large companies and he especially enjoys being able to work with the “decision makers” who manage financial resources for their companies. By partnering with SilverStone Group’s Retirement division, these financial planners are able to assist employees to achieve a retirement that is secure and within their means.
Donn and the DB Team know how vital it is to provide timely service and accurate information to their clients. Exceeding a client’s expectations is always goal one for every DB division engagement.
When he’s away from work, Donn enjoys working with horses. A former competitive equestrian, he now cares for an older mare who is “the boss,” a younger gelding who wishes he was and a miniature donkey who has disproportionate influence on both.

Mike loves the outdoors, but you’d never guess that from his choice of career — as an actuary. He’s a 21-year veteran of pension, actuarial and consulting services, including 19 years in post-retirement medical, dental and life insurance actuarial valuations and consulting. His extensive experience provides for the design, implementation, evaluation and ongoing administration of pension and retiree welfare programs. Mike enjoys the challenge of creating solutions for complex financial problems. He realizes that while clients expect his department to provide viable answers, they are often surprised to find that Mike and his team take the time to really listen before making recommendations.
Mike is the author of several articles for our SilverLink magazine and is involved in numerous professional associations, including the American Academy of Actuaries. He is an Enrolled Actuary by the Joint Board for Enrollment of Actuaries, an Associate for the Society of Actuaries and a member of the Nebraska Actuaries Club. He is Treasurer of the not-for-profit Copper Ridge Estates Homeowners’ Association and attends St. Patrick Church.

Considering his career choice, it’s not surprising that Michael has always excelled when it comes to mathematics. In college, he used his math skills to write a computer program to simulate a baseball game, a project that won him the Phi Kappa Phi Scholar of the Year Award.
Michael has over seven years of actuarial experience helping clients find solutions that fit their individual and organizational needs. He performs post-retirement medical valuations to satisfy ASC 715-60, GASB 45 and NAIC reporting requirements. He has also been involved in working with Actuarial Equivalency attestations for Medicare Part D. He has been assisting clients with Early Retiree Reinsurance Programs established under PPACA.
Michael has worked as a pricing actuary in several sectors, including individual health, Medicare supplement, disability, critical illness and Long-Term Care. He has been involved at all levels of actuarial work, from pricing new market expansion and new plan offerings to existing markets, annual rate filings, producer compensation design and primary support.
Michael is the author of several articles for our SilverLink magazine and is also an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a member of the Nebraska Actuaries Club. He is also a member of the Maple Street YMCA Advisory Board and has served on the Parish Council and Stewardship committee of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
With four little girls, Michael spends most of his free time at home with his family. Whether he is giving “dragon rides” or pretending to be a puppy—since he has thus far resisted giving in and buying one—Michael can always expect an abundance of hugs when he walks in the door at night.

Tony is always on the run. Really. He’s over halfway to his goal of completing 100 marathons. The same kind of discipline it takes to train for long-distance runs also serves Tony well in the business world. He has over 20 years of experience with Group Health and Welfare Plan compliance under IRS, DOL and HHS regulations. He frequently lectures on Section 125 plan compliance, Wellness initiatives, Consumer-Driven health plans, HIPAA Privacy and Security, COBRA interpretation and ERISA fiduciary responsibilities. His extensive knowledge of Section 125 led to him co-authoring a Certified Flexible Compensation Instructor course on its plan administrative guidelines.
Tony provides regulatory compliance in all areas of Employee Benefits and Investment Consulting services offered by SilverStone Group, with particular emphasis on Group Health Plan Federal Mandates. He knows that every day can bring new challenges and new solutions to his clients’ group benefits problems. Tony sets the standard for his team by being willing to go the distance to satisfy their clients’ individual benefits needs. His team has the training and discipline necessary to create proactive, cutting-edge solutions based on experience, research and current industry trends. No matter what the challenge, the goal remains the same — provide the best, most reliable products available, combined with outstanding customer service. SilverStone Group is not just a place of work for Beth, it’s her second home. After 27 years with the company, her fellow Associates have become like family.
Beth currently serves as the Executive Assistant for the Defined / Post-Retirement Benefits division but she has held various positions, including Assistant Plan Administrator, Administrative Assistant and 401(k) Plan Record Keeper.
Along with the wide variety of duties that keep her moving throughout the day, Beth’s focus is on assisting in the GASB area with marketing, maintaining prospect and client lists and drafting and assembling proposals. Beth also handles plan administrator duties as a backup and fills in wherever she is needed.
Beth is active in her community and has enjoyed her mission trips to Northern Canada. For six straight summers, she took a 17-hour car ride along with an hour-and-a-half turbo prop plane ride to the Oji-Cree Indian reservation in Ontario, where she taught Vacation Bible School to Indian children. Working with the children on the reservation has given Beth experience to handle her son, who was adopted in May of 2008. Beth says that both her son and the Indian children are very active, but she says they all offer an incredible opportunity for growth and learning potential. In a few years, Beth would love to return to Northern Canada and take her son to show him quite the unique experience!
